Halloween!!

October is slowly coming to an end; November will be here before we know it and, Halloween has finally arrived.  Everyone is scurrying to get those last minute costumes.  Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and everywhere imaginable is just packed with people getting ready for the up and coming season. Whether its candy for the trick-o-treaters or just a costume hunt, people are searching like mad dogs.  Many think that costumes are a waste of money because they will never be worn again and yes for the kiddo that is indeed correct, but when you’re a teenager some of those crazy costumes may come in handy in the future.

Here are a few tips when buying a Halloween costume that can be worn again. Dressing up as a hippie, because the seventies look never gets old.  The main tip is dress up as a person from the past, there will always be a fifties party or even an eighties party. They are fun and the dress up opportunity is an enjoyable one.  Get those plat-form shoes and psychedelic dresses and treasure them; they just might come in handy one day.

When searching for the perfect costume maybe step outside the box and head to the consignment store; ones man’s trash is another man’s treasure.  The same goes for second-hand vintage shops.   No telling what these stores have to offer.  The prices are better and so are the finds, so save a little money and have a better costume.  It’s a win win situation so bargain shop this Halloween.  In the future it won’t be hard finding an outfit for the party. Just pull out the old one, or even head to the vintage stores and have some more fun searching for the best costume ever.

If Halloween wasn’t first on the priority list there is still hope, there are a few last minute costume ideas that will look great.   Dress up as an actor or actress, which seems pretty manageable.  Maybe even dress up as a schoolteacher, a nerd, hey maybe even one of the presidential candidates.  There are so many easy routes to take in the Halloween season. Be creative with your ideas and it will definitely pay off in the end.  From here on out make the best out of the Halloween season, buy a pumpkin, get some good ole candy corn, and last but not least dress up like there is no tomorrow.

Closet Cleanliness is a Must!

Closets can some times be very overwhelming, jeans are everywhere, sweaters are un-neatly folded on the shelves, and shoes are strewn everywhere.  There is a solution for everything, including this closet madness.  Yes, there are some pieces of clothing that bring great memories and that will never leave the very back of the closet, creating much unnecessary clutter; but there is a way to change this.  In every girls closet there is usually a tremendous amount of clothes, when in reality there are only five basic pieces necessary to having great outfits day to day.  One may think, only five pieces?  That is in fact correct.

A good pair of dress pants, a polished white button down blouse, a stylish pair of stilettos, and that little black dress.   However, a great pair of boots, a beautiful winter coat, the purse you cant live with out, and of course

accessories are a must as well.  Adding these other items to the closet is a-ok, but just do not go crazy and buy things unnecessary those unnecessary items will just create more and more clutter, which is in the opposite direction that is being aimed for.

When purchasing the must have objects in making the closet malfunction go away, smart shopping is the key.  Think about what would come of the coat that looks great at the moment, do not just buy on impulse.  Maybe even keep the tags on the object so an item return is still a possibility.   Vintage is great, but sometimes it is time to let go of the oldie Goldie clothes that are creating much untidiness in closets.  Be a smart shopper in the future it may benefit not only in the money aspect but the clutter aspect as well.  Although keeping the clothing load and the amount of shoes purchased is a definite in keeping a closet tidy, the organizational aspect is a key fact as well.  If storage space is low buy large plastic storage containers to keep stray items from creating even more chaos in the closet and even getting lost as well.

Keeping a closet clean and organized is a tough task, but definitely a manageable one.   In the long run having a tidy closet will be a great benefit, especially when it comes to finding that certain sweater or that killer pair of shoes that is nowhere to be found.  Girls keep the closets looking good and clean, it’s a must.

Help Our Animals!!

I love animals more than anything. My family has had three bunnies, many cats, a turtle, several dogs and lastly a snake. We have loved each and every one of them like crazy, just like they were family.  I could never imagine hurting or abandoning my animals on the street, that would be like abusing a family member. Why would anyone hurt their animals or put them in an unsuitable situation You wouldn't do that to family so why would you do it to the animals we love the most?

Thanks to the humane society many of these animals have a place to go, but before we know it there will be no room for all of the animals, and what a problem that would be!  In the future there will be no place for these helpless animals because so many people abandon them, so go to the shelter and adopt an animal today!  What a great feeling to know you saved an animal's life.

Beauty is Only Skin Deep

Many young girls today compare themselves to the women seen in high fashion magazines, some are incredibly thin and some are drop dead gorgeous. What many people don't see is that these girls are air brushed like crazy to hide all of their flaws. Not one of these girls are photographed and put in the magazines just exactly as they are. Right now, and especially in the future, some young girls could feel pressured to look just like these models.  It could even force them to turn to bulemia or aneroxia.           The magazine producers need to see that average women are beautiful as well and not just physically but mentally as well. W, Vouge, InStyle, and sevral other high in magazines show these models that just look sickly thin, and its not attrictive what so ever. Being like these girls isn't the way to go, just because they apper in the top fashion magizines and are know all over they world doesn't mean they are happy. Be happy in your own skin, dont try to be someone your not. Beauty is only skin deep.

What is Fashion to You?

The standard definition of fashion is a prevailing custom or style of dress, etiquette, and socializing.  However when it comes to someone other than the dictionary the definition may vary.  Fashion is a very opinioned and personal thing; it signifies something different to mostly everyone. In my opinion fashion is a way to express yourself, not only does it represent ones physical appearance but mental feelings as well.  For instance if I am feeling really dapper I may have on a cute top and heels, maybe even a dress.  If I am feeling under the weather I may wear just a plain ole t-shirt and a jacket, nothing to cute.  Fashion can totally show ones mood without even having to ask.  To get a few different perspectives I asked the girls in my journalism class to explain to me and everyone else what fashion is to them.

After hearing what Natasha, Pricilla, and Scarlet had to say about fashion  I hope everyone can come up with a definition for themselves.
Express yourself through fashion in every way you can; show how you are truly feeling through fashion.  Which leads me to ask, what is fashion to you?

Is It Always A Good Thing to Follow Trends??

Everyone follows trends whether it be doing drugs or wearing the correct color nail polish, trends are followed. Why are they followed? Is it the cool thing to do?  What is it? Following trends can lead to a slight diversion of conformity in its own little way.  Set unique standers dont just wear something or do something beacuse everyone else is. Wear funky clothes and stand out, don't just blend in; no one wants that. The same goes for bad things, not just fashion; some girls think, "oh if she smokes pot so should everyone else." Now that's not the way it has to be, be unique in the decisions that are made. Do not follow the crowds and their trends, be a trendsetter and set the trends for everyone else.  It is way better that way!
This season maybe buy a really fun coat and wear it with bright colored tights and rustic boots, the idea may sound weird but put it all together and the outfit will definitely be a hit!  Yearn to be a trend setter, not a follower of the trends!

Senior Spot Light!

This goes out to all seniors! The time to visit colleges has finally arrived; but the idea of looking nice on the college tours is regularly over looked. It may not seem like an important detail, but your appearance could be a crucial factor when it comes to these nerve-racking interviews. When the time comes to visit college campuses there are many things a student should be prepared for, one of the most important being an interview. Whether it is with an admissions councilor or financial aid advisor, these interviews are of the utmost level of importance. Yes, being prepared mentally is a big deal, but being prepared physically is important as well.
A nice dress with heels for girls and khaki slacks with a tailored button down shirt for guys gives off a confidant vibe. However, if overdressed one could look as if they were trying too hard, they could also look over confident.  Although if one wore a t-shirt and jeans they would look unprepared and unprofessional.  Make an effort to look nice when visiting colleges, it could be a very important factor.
